Book Review: Diary

Penned by the same author who gave us Fight Club...and holds true to fight club tradition. It's a mystery novel but it doesn't appear to be. He lays them down ever so carefully you never really know until you can't get away anymore. The style of story-telling is unique and yet....what was it????? Ahhhh, Stendhal syndrome. Exactly!

Movie Review: Little Children
"She's trapped! She has a choice: she can either accept a life of misery or she can struggle against it. And she chooses to struggle"...Sarah Pierce's analysis of Madam Bovary.
Starring Kate Winslet, Patrick Wilson and Jennifer Connely. Adapted from Tom Perrotta's book of the same title
A compelling representation of life, so deep it cuts you and leaves it throbbing even after the movie's over.

Book Review: Eva Luna
Per Rory Gilmore's recommendation (Gilmore Girls Season 7...forgot which episode!) I bought a copy of this book...and I was blown away! Isabel Allende is indeed a master story teller. This book is very engaging. I loved it so much, I am seriously buying her 1st book, House Of Spirits which was dubbed as her best (although Rory thought it was Eva Luna). I have definitely become a fan.
Book Review: Eating Fire and Drinking Water
I totally love Arlene Chai! I wish she would write more. She writes so skillfully it was like watching the scenes unfold before your eyes. Eating Fire and Drinking Water is a kaleidoscope of really dark colors (LOL!) but still done oh so seductively you're drawn into it like a moth to a flame. Like her first novel The Last Time I saw Mother, this too delved into the political air of the Philippines during the time of dictatorship and you can't help but try to decipher which is real and which is make-believe. Was there really a Luis Bayani she promised to write about someday? The graphic details all the more made it so laden with malice, it's almost like getting your hands into an unauthorized publication.
